Rockford's Lundberg Home listed in National Register of Historic Places

Press Release - Wednesday, January 28, 2009

ROCKFORD - The Charles J. Lundberg Home at 946 N. Second in Rockford was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on December 30, 2008 by the National Park Service.

"The Lundberg Home is historically significant because of its high artistic value and exceptional craftsmanship, all of which have been well preserved," said Jan Grimes, director of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, which administers the National Register program in Illinois.  "We welcome its inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, the nation's most prestigious listing of properties with historical significance."

Built in 1915, the Lundberg Home was designed by architect Frank Carpenter, who created a home in keeping with the prevailing Colonial Revival movement of the time.  However, the Lundberg Home was also given a distinctive, artistic look with the use of Craftsman architectural style touches.  It is one of only a small number of fine-quality stone residences remaining in the city.
