Ogle County property listed in National Register of Historic Places

Press Release - Tuesday, July 15, 2008

GENEVA - The Town Hall in the Ogle County community of Davis Junction was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on June 10, 2008 by the National Park Service.

"The historic Town Hall is the only municipal structure remaining from Davis Junction's early history when it was a burgeoning railroad town," said Jan Grimes, director of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, which administers the National Register program in Illinois. "We welcome its inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, the nation's most prestigious listing of properties with historical significance."

Public meetings were held in the simple clapboard structure starting in 1877. It was the center of social activity in Davis Junction during the late 19th century and most of the 20th century. Nicknamed "Bushman Hall" for its association with a local fraternal organization, the Davis Junction Town Hall's single large meeting room is typical of small-town municipal buildings that saw a myriad of uses in the community.
