Geneva property listed in National Register of Historic Places
GENEVA - Elizabeth Place in Geneva was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on May 12, 2008 by the National Park Service.
"Elizabeth Place is a unique historic residence that is significant for its architecture and its ties to the history of Geneva," said Jan Grimes, director of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, which administers the National Register program in Illinois. "The National Register of Historic Places is the nation's most prestigious listing of properties with historical significance."
Elizabeth Place was built in 1898-1900 on land purchased by Henry Bond Fargo, and was named for his wife, Anna Elizabeth. Fargo was instrumental in the development of Geneva, Sycamore and DeKalb. Elizabeth Place embodies the features of the Mission Style with its symmetrical front façade, parapets, unique window configuration, and red clay tile roof. Its limestone exterior uses stones that were quarried in the Geneva area.
