Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs to host 8 Open Houses in Cook County at Veteran Service Offices for Veterans and families July 10th

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) will hold 8 Open Houses at its Veteran Service Offices throughout Cook County on Thursday, July 10th, to help Veterans, their families, and survivors of fallen service members get the benefits they rightfully deserve.  The Veteran Service Offices in Cook County house 17 of the state's 73 Veteran Service Officers who offer help to Veterans and their families in applying for and receiving compensation and benefits from the federal VA and the state.
 
"Illinois leads the nation when it comes to ensuring that our service men and women have the best services and resources available when they come home," said IDVA Director L. Tammy Duckworth.  "The Veteran Service Offices are great resources for our Veterans to receive one-on-one assistance and to learn about what state and federal benefits are available to them.  I want to encourage all Cook County Veterans and their families to attend an Open House on July 10th - get the benefits you have rightfully earned."
 
Veteran Service Offices serve as sign-up locations and informational hubs for the state's programs and benefits, including: the Illinois Warrior Assistance Program - a first in the nation program that provides 24-hour, toll-free assistance for Veterans, day or night, with the symptoms associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and offers Traumatic Brain Injury screenings for all Illinois Veterans; and Veterans Care - Governor Blagojevich's health insurance program providing comprehensive, affordable healthcare to Illinois' uninsured Veterans.
 
The Veteran Service Office Open Houses will all begin at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 10th at the following locations:

Over Memorial Day weekend, Governor Blagojevich announced that the state's 51 Veteran Service Offices will all host Open Houses throughout the coming months for Veterans, their families, and survivors of fallen service members.
