Garden Walk June 1 at Pierre Menard Home

ELLIS GROVE - A Garden Walk featuring tours, demonstrations and refreshments will be held Sunday, June 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Pierre Menard Home State Historic Site near Ellis Grove, Illinois. The event is free and open to the public.

Tours of the historically authentic herb garden and Menard Home will be given throughout the afternoon. Master gardeners in period clothing will be on hand to demonstrate their skills and answer questions about gardening in general and herbs in particular. Copies of the Pierre Menard Home Kitchen Recipes cookbook, which includes several dishes using herbs grown in the Menard Home herb garden, will be on sale. Free refreshments will be served.

The Garden Walk is hosted by the Pierre Menard Home Volunteer Society and the Pierre Menard Home staff.

The Pierre Menard Home State Historic Site, administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (www.Illinois-History.gov), was built around 1815 for Illinois' first Lieutenant Governor and is considered one of the finest examples of French Creole architecture in the mid Mississippi River Valley. It is located off of State Route 3 about six miles north of Chester, Illinois. The Menard Home is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for free pubic tours.
