Press Release - Monday, December 11, 2006

Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn to joined a military family in lighting Thompson Center Holiday Tree

CHICAGO- (Today), Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn will light the 25-foot holiday tree at the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St. in Chicago. Quinn was joined in lighting this year's tree by the family of Army Reserve Captain Anthony Manning, of Schaumburg, who is currently serving his country in Kuwait.

Quinn, who light the tree for the first time, has invited Mrs. Chris Manning, along with the couple's three sons -- Joshua, age 10, Sean, 8, and Bryce, 3 -- and their daughter, 2-year-old Kyle, to participate in the ceremony to remind people across Illinois of the many servicemen and women who will be spending their holidays overseas this year.

"All across the Land of Lincoln, there are families who will be thinking about loved ones who are far away this holiday," Quinn said.  "We hope every one of the thousands of people who pass by this tree will take a moment to send good wishes to our brave men and women serving in the Global War on Terror."

Special music for the event was provided by the USO Carolers. Other participants will include Grace Hou, Assistant Secretary of the Illinois Department of Human Services, and Joyce Prager, Assistant Vice President/Community Relations for 21st Century Insurance

The state's tree-lighting ceremony, an annual tradition, will promote the Keep Our Kids Warm and Safe giving campaign.
