"Tavern on the Greene" November 3 in Woodbine to benefit Apple River Fort Historic Foundation
WOODBINE, IL - Samuel Johnson said it best in 1776: "There is nothing which has yet been contrived by man by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavern or inn."
Happiness and history will mingle during "Tavern on the Greene," featuring an authentic 1830s tavern atmosphere, scheduled for Friday, November 3 at 6 p.m. at Woodbine Bend Clubhouse in Woodbine, Illinois. The event is sponsored by the Apple River Fort Historic Foundation Inc., and is a fundraiser for that organization.
Experience an evening of delight and amusements - 19th century style. Enjoy authentic cuisine served to you by costumed waitresses as Woodbine Bend is transformed into a tavern of yesteryear. Belly up to the bar with your Tavern Mug and stomp along to rollicking tunes. Compete with others during the Silent Auction for the best plunder in the county. Top off the evening with featured entertainments by the Terrapin Ridge Ramblers, Zeno & Friends and more.
Tickets are $35 each and can be purchased at the Apple River Fort State Historic Site in Elizabeth, Illinois. All proceeds benefit the educational programs at Apple River Fort.
Apple River Fort State Historic Site, administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (www.Illinois-History.gov), is a reconstruction of the 1830s civilian fort that was the site of a battle between Black Hawk's Sauk warriors and Apple River settlers during the Black Hawk War.
