Lincoln Log Cabin "Taste of Summer" July 1

Press Release - Wednesday, June 28, 2006

Site open regular hours July 4

LERNA - Gardening during the mid 1800s may be experienced during "Taste of Summer" scheduled for Saturday, July 1 at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site.  The event is free and open to the public.

The Lincoln Log Cabin gardens will be in full bloom, and visitors will receive a guide booklet to help them explore the gardens at the Lincoln and Sargent Farms.  Costumed interpreters will be on hand to demonstrate gardening methods and food preparation.  Nineteenth century pioneer gardens provided seasonal fare for immediate table use, as well as items that could be dried, pickled, or stored in root cellars for the coming winter.  Visitors may sample fresh sweet corn at the Lincoln Farm after touring the gardens.

Lincoln Log Cabin will be open for free public tours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4.

Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site, administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (www.Illinois-History.gov), was the last home of Thomas and Sarah Bush Lincoln, father and stepmother pf Abraham Lincoln.  It is located eight miles south of Charleston and is open daily through Labor Day for free public tours.  For more information, call (217) 345-1845 or visit lincolnlogcabin.org.
