QUINN CELEBRATES ARMED FORCES DAY AT NAVY PIER WITH THE USO

CHICAGO—Today, Lt. Governor Pat Quinn celebrate Armed Forces Day at Navy Pier with the USO.
 
"Our military has a long history of defending freedom," said Quinn. "Today we remember those who answered our country's call to duty in the past as well as the brave men and women serving in the Global War on Terrorism."
 
First celebrated on May 20, 1950, Armed Forces Day was inaugurated as the day to salute all of the men and women in every branch of service who protect the American people. Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May.
 
Quinn was joined by Leticia Peralta Davis, CEO of Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority and Lisa Moeller, President of the USO.
 
There are more than 3,800 Illinois National Guardsmen and reservists serving on active duty in the Global War on Terrorism.
