FARMERS' FALL FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 24 IN DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELD

Press Release - Thursday, September 22, 2005

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Autumn produce and activities will be in abundance at the Farmers' Fall Festival scheduled for Saturday, September 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Old State Capitol Plaza in downtown Springfield.

Visitors may purchase fall flowers and produce for which the Old Capitol Farmers' Market is famous.  Artisans will demonstrate and sell crafts, "Lost and Found" will provide music, and a chef demonstration will feature seasonal cooking tips.  The Shriners' Parade Spectacular begins at 11 a.m.

The Old State Capitol Lawn will be full of activities such as kids' crafts, gourd painting and flower planting.  Apple butter samples will be available, and the historic 1839 Old State Capitol will be open for free public tours.

The Farmers' Fall Festival is presented by St. John's Hospital and co-sponsored by Illini Bank, Illinois Times, Old State Capitol Foundation, Capitol Radio Group, (can't make this out - some kids drawing; also can't make out the musical note next to it), and Maldaner's.  For more information, visit www.downtownspringfield.org.

Fall Festival visitors may also enjoy a taste of history at the nearby Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices State Historic Site and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, both open all day September 24.  These sites, plus the Old State Capitol, are administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (www.Illinois-History.gov).
