QUINN ANNOUNCES HOW PIZZA LOVERS CAN SUPPORT THE TROOPS

Press Release - Tuesday, September 06, 2005

CHAMPAIGN -Today, Lt. Governor Pat Quinn announced how patrons of Monical's Pizza can remember the victims of the September 11, 2001 tragedies and support the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund.

On September 11 (Patriot Day) and November 11 (Veterans Day), all 48 Monical's Pizza locations in Illinois will donate 10 percent of their gift certificate sales to the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund. On October 11,  all Illinois locations will also host a "Community Night" during which 20 percent of regular price sales will be donated to the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund as well.

"The events of September 11 changed our country forever," Quinn said. "As thousands of our brave men and women stand on the frontlines in the Global War on Terrorism, it's our job on the homefront to take care of the families of those who bear the battle, and that's what the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund is created to do."

The Illinois Military Family Relief Fund assists the families of Illinois National Guard members and reservists called to active duty who may be facing financial hardships with expenses such as rent, groceries, or utility bills. The Fund has distributed more than $3.7 million to more than 6,200 Illinois military families.

Quinn was joined by Jayme Flowers (Marketing Specialist), Lisa Chidichimo (Marketing Coordinator), and Colleen Hatton (Manager) of Monical's Pizza.

Founded in 1959 in Tolono, Illinois, Monical's Pizza has grown to include more than 55 restaurants in Central Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

"Pizza from Monical's has been a family dining tradition for over 40 years," Quinn said. "Today, we thank this family restaurant for helping support our troops. I encourage every citizen to make their next visit to Monical's Pizza, a visit for the troops."

There are more than 5,200 Illinois National Guardsmen and reservists serving on active duty in the Global War on Terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan.
