ILLINOIS EPA WEB SITE OFFERS QUICK LINK FOR AGRICULTURE INFO
SPRINGFIELD--- As part of a continuing outreach to Illinois' agricultural industry, the Illinois EPA has launched an "Agricultural Information Center" on its web site and also sponsored three exhibits at the 2005 Farm Progress Show.
"Helping farmers integrate good environmental and conservation practices into their operations is not only good for the environment but often boosts productivity as well," said IEPA Director Doug Scott.
The web site (www.epa.state.il.us) offers a new link under "Info Centers: Agriculture" on the left hand side of the opening page. It goes directly to menus of information on such topics as waste and disposal issues, alternative fuels, livestock issues, water issues and financial resources.
Visitors to the Farm Progress Show in Decatur also can obtain information on IEPA programs of interest to agriculture this week.
In the Conservation Partners Tent at the Farm Progress show, IEPA exhibits include information on water shed evaluations; information on E-85 and biodiesel fuels and state programs to encourage increased usage; and a recycled tire demonstration that includes operation of a tire shredding machine.
In addition, a demonstration project involving subsurface bio-reactors that use wood chips to remove nitrates from runoff water, is on display at the southeast corner of the Farm Progress Show. The project was designed by University of Illinois Associate Professor of Agricultural Engineering Richard Cooke, with assistance from a nonpoint pollution control grant from Illinois EPA.
Additional information on Illinois EPA assistance to agriculture is available from the Agency's Agricultural and Rural Affairs Advisor, Richard Breckenridge at 217-558-6818.
