Lt. Governor Stratton's Statement on President Biden's Signing of Historic Legislation on Behalf of Veterans
Chicago —Today, President Biden signed four bills into law that will support, protect, uplift, and prioritize the care of veterans and their families.
These laws are historic and life-changing for the men and women of our military. One creates a path that would recruit military personnel to work in federal health care occupations; another makes education more affordable for surviving spouses and children of veterans; a third earmarks $15 million dollars for maternity care programs for women veterans. And finally, a government study will be conducted to root out disparities associated with race and ethnicity regarding veterans' benefits.
As Chair of the Military Economic Development Committee and the daughter of a veteran, I know the bravery and resilience our service members exhibit daily. These laws honor their sacrifices by putting veterans' health and wellbeing front and center.
I congratulate President Biden, Vice-President Harris, and all of the leaders who championed these measures. I extend my most profound appreciation and gratitude to all those who serve, our veterans, and their families.
