Illinois EPA Announces a combined $2.3 Million in Loans to the North Shore Water Reclamation District

Press Release - Friday, December 06, 2019

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois EPA Director John J. Kim today announced a total of $2,350,782 million in loans to the North Shore Water Reclamation District (Lake County). The low-interest loans are provided by Illinois EPA's State Revolving Fund, which provides funding for wastewater, stormwater and drinking water projects.

"These loans will provide the North Shore Water Reclamation District with the funding necessary to complete much needed rehabilitation and repairs to facilities within their system and meet the needs of the sixteen communities and unincorporated areas of Lake County," said Director Kim. "This is an investment in the District and the hundreds of thousands of residents they serve each day."

The North Shore Water Reclamation District will use one loan of $1,153,043 to replace switchgear at the Gurnee, Clavey Road, and Waukegan water reclamation facilities. The second loan of $1,197,739, will be used to rehabilitate digesters 1 and 4 at the Clavey Road Water Reclamation Facility. The projects are expected to be completed in April 2020.

"The North Shore Water Reclamation District recognizes the value of the Illinois IEPA's State Revolving Fund program to assist the District in completing critical capital improvement projects while at the same time fulfilling its fiduciary duty to ratepayers to provide wastewater treatment services in the most economical manner possible," stated Executive Director Brian Dorn. "The District expects to continue its participation in this program to aid its mission to protect Lake Michigan, local waterways, and the environment through sustainable and fiscally responsible wastewater reclamation practices at its facilities."

In FY2019, Illinois EPA's State Revolving Fund loan programs provided low interest loans totaling nearly $684 million. So far, more than $59 million has been forgiven by Illinois EPA to qualifying loan applicants.
