Gov. Pritzker and Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois Joint Statement on Synagogue Shooting

Press Release - Monday, April 29, 2019

Chicago - Governor JB Pritzker and a delegation of Chabad Rabbis from throughout the state met this morning and released the following joint statement about the shooting at the Poway synagogue.

"We are devastated by the shooting at the Chabad synagogue in Poway. This was not just an attack on the Jewish community, but an attack on all of humanity. We grieve for the loss of innocent life. We pray for the victims who were wounded and traumatized by the attack. We condemn and denounce all forms of anti-Semitism, hate and bigotry.  We are grateful to law enforcement authorities and local leaders for their swift and determined response after this brutal hate crime."

Rabbi Meir Moscowitz, regional director of Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois shared: "This tragedy has touched the lives of so many throughout the world, we are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the Governor, elected officials and community at large as we take the necessary steps to move forward to hopefully better days ahead."

Governor Pritzker's administration and Homeland Security advisor are coordinating the response to ensure that local law enforcement and religious institutions have the resources they need to be vigilant.

The community is also invited to participate in an evening of solidarity tonight at the Holiday Inn North Shore, 5300 West Touhy Ave in Skokie.
