Public Meeting on Springfield's Third Street Rail Corridor

Press Release - Thursday, August 10, 2017

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation will host a public meeting Thursday, Aug. 17, to discuss improvements to the Third Street railroad corridor as part the ongoing Chicago-to-St. Louis passenger rail improvements. Information on construction impacts, including where and when work will take place as well as details on the benefits of the completed project, will be available for the public to review and ask questions.

The meeting will be an open-house format and focus on improvements to be made in the Springfield area. Attendees can come and go as they wish:

4 to 7 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 17

Bank of Springfield Center (formerly Prairie Capital Convention Center)

1 Convention Center Plaza, Rooms B6 & B11B

Springfield

The meeting is being held concurrently and at the same location as the Springfield Rail Improvements Project public meeting, at which representatives from that project will be available to give updates and answer questions.

Next month, construction will commence on 18 crossings throughout the Third Street corridor to improve safety. Fencing work in the corridor has already begun. Work is expected to be completed next spring.

The upgrades are part of the project to introduce faster speeds as well as increase safety and reliability on passenger rail trips between Chicago and St. Louis.
