Governor Quinn Announces $9.4 Million for Illinois Airport Improvements

SPRINGFIELD - Governor Pat Quinn today announced investments totaling $9.4 million for construction projects at Illinois airports. The investments will help build and maintain Illinois' growing transportation infrastructure. The projects are part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"Airports are a vital part of our modern transportation infrastructure and are a driver of economic growth across our state," Governor Quinn said. "Properly maintaining and upgrading them creates jobs while ensuring that Illinois maintains its position as the nation's inland port."

The contracts were awarded following a competitive bidding process and address critical infrastructure needs while creating construction jobs. The Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics will manage the projects, which includes federal, state and local funding.

A list of projects follows:

Cook County

The North Quadrant T-Hangar pavement at Lansing Municipal Airport will be rehabilitated for $431,397 by D Construction, Inc. of Coal City, the lower of two bidders.

The airfield lights at Schaumburg Regional Airport will be rehabilitated for $340,061 by J.F. Edwards Construction Company of Geneseo, the lowest of three bidders.

The east quadrant of the General Aviation Apron at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling will be rehabilitated for $782,151 by Martam Construction, Inc. of Elgin, the lower of two bidders.

Crawford County

The lighting systems on Runway 9/27 at the Crawford County Airport will be replaced for $426,308 by J.H. Moore, Inc. of Effingham, the lowest of five bidders. Also at the airport, trees will be cleared by Homer Tree Service, Inc. of Lockport. They were the lowest of three bidders at $129,645.

DeKalb County

The T-Hangar area pavement at DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport will be rehabilitated for $255,867 by Martin & Company Excavating of Oregon, the lowest of three bidders. The same airport will have its taxiways marked for $22,082 by Preform Traffic Control Systems, Ltd. of Elk Grove Village, the lowest of three bidders.

Grundy County

Runway 18/36 North at Morris Municipal Airport will be extended to 5,500 feet for $1,121,063 by P.T. Ferro Construction Co. of Joliet, the lowest of three bidders.

Jackson County

Taxiway D at Southern Illinois Airport will be removed for $158,608 by E.T. Simonds Construction Company of Carbondale.

Kane County

The joints on Runway 15/33 at Aurora Municipal Airport will be cleaned and sealed for $499,094 by Alliance Contractors, Inc. of Woodstock, the lowest of five bidders.

Knox County

Taxiway A at Galesburg Municipal Airport will be rehabilitated for $720,286 by Gunther Construction, a division of United Contractors Midwest, Inc. of Galesburg, the lowest of four bidders.

LaSalle County

The General Aviation Apron at Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru will be rehabilitated for $379,247 by D Construction, Inc. of Coal City, the lowest of seven bidders.

Livingston County

A visual navigational aid system will be installed at Pontiac Municipal Airport for $107,250 by T.G.B., Inc. of St. Louis, the lower of two bidders.

Macon County

The terminal auto parking lot at Decatur Airport will be rehabilitated for $591,940 by Feutz Contractors, Inc. of Paris, the lowest of three bidders.

Madison County

Runway 35 at the St. Louis Regional Airport in Bethalto will receive grading and drainage work for $286,000 by G.L. Warren Construction, Inc. of Edwardsville, the lowest of eight bidders.

Mason County

The aircraft parking apron at Havana Regional Airport will be rehabilitated for $299,508 by Illinois Valley Paving, a division of United Contractors Midwest, Inc. of Springfield, the lower of two bidders.

Massac County

A partial parallel taxiway to the end of Runway 36 at Metropolis Municipal Airport will be constructed for $441,667 by E.T. Simonds Construction Company of Carbondale, the lower of two bidders. In addition, the entrance road to the airport's north hangar will be rehabilitated for $107,384 by Southern Illinois Asphalt Co., Inc. of Marion, the lower of two bidders.

Ogle County

A partial parallel taxiway to Runway 7/25 at Rochelle Municipal Airport will be constructed, lit and marked for $591,441 by William Charles Construction Company, LLC of Loves Park, the lowest of three bidders.

Richland County

The medium intensity lighting on Runway 3/21 at Olney Noble Airport will be replaced for $172,135 by J.H. More, Inc. of Effingham, the lowest of five bidders.

Vermilion County

The lights on Runway 16/34 at Vermilion Regional Airport will be rehabilitated for $219,721 by Bodine Electric of Decatur, the lowest of five bidders. The T-Hangar Taxiways at the same airport will be rehabilitated for $192,124 by Open Road Paving Company, LLC of Urbana.

Taxiway C at Vermilion County Airport will be relocated for $767,664 by Open Road Paving Company, LLC of Urbana, the lower of two bidders.

Wayne County

The runways at Fairfield Municipal Airport will be re-marked for $57,465 by Hi-Lite Markings, Inc. of Adams Center, NY, the lower of two bidders

Will County

Taxiway A at Joliet Regional Airport will be rehabilitated for $367,010 by D Construction, Inc. of Coal City, the lowest of three bidders.

The state funds for the projects come from Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which supports more than 439,000 jobs over six years. It is the largest infrastructure construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
