Governor Quinn Announces $4.6 Million for Road Projects in McHenry County

LAKE IN THE HILLS - Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $4.6 million for road projects in McHenry County, part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. The projects are part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"Our investments will make it safer and more convenient for motorists traveling through McHenry County," Governor Quinn said. "The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive the local economy forward."

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The Village of Johnsburg will receive a new roundabout intersection at Johnsburg Road and Chapel Hill Road. This will include pavement, sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm sewer, a box culvert, lighting, brick paved cross walks and landscaping. Glenbrook Excavating and Concrete, Inc. of Wauconda was the lowest of seven bidders for the work at $2,708,847.

The intersection of Illinois Route 176 and Smith Road in Nunda Township will be upgraded, including channelization and traffic signal installation, for $1,539,547 by Berger Excavating Contractors, Inc. of Wauconda, the lowest of six bidders.

A bridge carrying Hilltop Drive over Woods Creek in Lake in the Hills will be replaced for $427,225 by Sjostrom & Sons, Inc. of Rockford, the lowest of seven bidders.

"I'm happy to see further investments made in our district that will provide for stronger infrastructure in the area while employing local businesses to complete the projects," State Senator Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) said. "These types of projects are beneficial for the area in more ways than one."

"Modernizing McHenry County's infrastructure is vital to the safety of local residents and revitalizing our economy," State Representative Jack D. Franks (D-Marengo) said. "These projects will improve the safety of our roads, bring jobs to our communities and make McHenry County a better place to do business."

The projects are part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
