Governor Quinn Announces $2.2 Million for Road Projects in Aurora Area
AURORA - Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $2.2 million for road projects in the Aurora area, part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. The projects are part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.
"Our investments will make it safer and more convenient for motorists traveling through the Aurora area," Governor Quinn said. "The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive the local economy forward."
The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
One project involves the fabrication of beams and bearings for the proposed overpass carrying U.S. Route 34 (Ogden Avenue) over the Canadian National Railroad tracks about 1.5 miles west of Illinois Route 59 in Aurora. Industrial Steel Construction, Inc. of Hodgkins was awarded the contract on their bid of $1,626,272.
Randall Road in North Aurora will be resurfaced, patched and striped from Orchard Road to Oak Street. Geneva Construction Company, Inc. of Aurora was the low bidder at $651,268.
"The Aurora area is experiencing steady growth, and our infrastructure needs to be upgraded to keep pace with the additional people and businesses that are locating here," Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen said. "We appreciate Governor Quinn's investment in our area."
"These projects will improve commute times for Aurora drivers and create job opportunities for local workers," State Senator Linda Holmes (D-Aurora) said.
The projects are part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
