Governor Quinn Announces $3 Million for Road Projects in Champaign and Vermilion Counties
CHAMPAIGN – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $3 million for road projects in Champaign and Vermilion Counties, part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“Our investments will make it safer and more convenient for motorists traveling through Champaign and Vermilion Counties,” Governor Quinn said. “The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive the local economy forward.”
The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Work on Windsor Road from Eagle Ridge Road to Brier Hill Road in Champaign will be completed for $2,557,636 by Stark Excavating, Inc. of Bloomington, the lowest of four bidders. The work includes new pavement, storm sewer relocation, retaining walls, shoulders, curb and gutter, and pavement marking.
Two bridges will be replaced in Vermilion County by Newell Construction Co., Inc. of Danville, the lowest bidder on each project. A bridge over Whiskey Creek on Township Road 15, about 3.5 miles south of Rankin, will be replaced for $225,705. And a span over Feather Creek about 3.5 miles north of Muncie will be replaced for $218,999.
“The investments we are making into Champaign and Vermilion counties’ infrastructure will help us keep our roads in good condition, as well as employ local workers,” State Senator Michael Frerichs (D-Champaign) said. “Good-paying jobs are the key to putting people back to work and growing our economy.”
“I’d like to thank Governor Quinn for bringing these much needed infrastructure improvements to our communities,” State Representative Naomi Jakobsson (D-Urbana) said. “These road and bridge improvements will mean safer commutes for thousands of residents and good paying jobs for many others.”
The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
