Governor Quinn Announces $20.8 Million for Bridge Reconstruction Project in Rockford

Press Release - Thursday, December 26, 2013

ROCKFORD – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $20.8 million for a bridge reconstruction project in Rockford, part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. The project is part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“Our investment will make sure this vital U.S. Route 20 river crossing in Rockford will remain safe and efficient for years to come,” Governor Quinn said. “The project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”

The bridges carrying the U.S. Route 20 Bypass on the south edge of Rockford over the Rock River will be reconstructed for $20,842,811 by Civil Constructors, Inc. of Freeport, the lowest of four bidders. Traffic may continue to flow along the Route 20 Bypass during the project. The project will be overseen by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

"I’m pleased to see the state focusing on the needs of the Rockford community. The Governor recently helped officially open the Morgan St. Bridge, and now he's announced reconstruction of another important bridge over the Rock River,” State Senator Steve Stadelman (D-Rockford) said. “This is a needed investment in our community and in our economy."

The project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
