Governor Quinn Announces $586,000 in Upgrades at Woodstock Readiness Center
WOODSTOCK – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $586,000 to upgrade the Illinois Army National Guard Readiness Center in Woodstock operated by the Illinois Department of Military Affairs. The upgrades are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“Our men and women in uniform expect to assemble in a sound facility and this project will ensure we continue to meet those expectations well into the future,” Governor Quinn said. “These upgrades will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”
The readiness center houses the Illinois Army National Guard’s Company D, 1st battalion, 178th Infantry.
“This project ensures our dedicated men and women have a safe, sound and efficient area to train and store their equipment,” Brig. Gen. Daniel M. Krumrei, the Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, said.
The work will involve replacing approximately 23,400 square feet of built-up roofing system, including replacing roof hatches and installing flashing, drains and gutters. The work also involves tuckpointing; sealing the masonry; replacing windows, sills and exterior doors; repainting the drill hall ceiling; and upgrading the exterior sidewalks and drives. Elens and Mauchin Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc. of Joliet was the lower of two bidders for the work at $586,370.
“Ensuring that we maintain a strong National Guard is of upmost importance,” State Senator Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) said. “This includes ensuring that the facilities they use are structurally sound and safe. These upgrades will do just that while generating economic activity in the area.”
“The men and women of the Army National Guard work tirelessly to keep our state and our communities safe. We owe them a modern and well-maintained Readiness Center,” State Representative Jack Franks (D-Marengo) said. “These upgrades will not only increase the readiness of our National Guard units when responding to natural disasters and other dangers, but also keep workers on the job, which benefits our entire community.”
The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board and uses federal funds administered by the State of Illinois.
