Governor Quinn Announces $4 Million for Construction Projects in Cook County
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $4 million for construction projects in Cook County. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“These construction projects will improve transportation safety and efficiency in Cook County, and also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy,” Governor Quinn said.
The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Cook County
The John Burns Construction Company of Orland Park was the lowest of six bidders on two separate projects. They will install light emitting diode (LED) signals at various Cook County locations for $1,265,555. They will also install LEDs and modernize traffic signals at 49 northwestern Cook County locations for $675,000.
Country Club Hills
The parkway will be restored; various routes resurfaced, patched or repaired; and storm sewers will be installed for $401,000 by Gallagher Asphalt Corporation of Thornton, the lowest of five bidders.
Glencoe
A multi-use path will be constructed on the south side of Lake Cook Road from the East Service Drive at the Chicago Botanic Garden to Blackhawk Road just west of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The work will include sidewalk construction, curb and gutter replacement, pedestrian traffic signals, construction of a boardwalk with retaining walls, and landscaping. Alliance Contractors, Inc. of Woodstock was the lowest of three bidders at $1,439,993.
Robbins
Claire Boulevard from 139th Street to Kedzie Avenue will be resurfaced and sidewalks, curb and gutter replaced for $327,000 by Gallagher Asphalt Corporation of Thornton, the lowest of three bidders.
These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
