CANTON – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of $285,000 for a renovation project at the Illinois River Correctional Center in Canton. The project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“This construction project will renovate freezer equipment which allows the state to save money by buying food in bulk,” Governor Quinn said. “Additionally, it will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well.”
The project will involve the renovation of malfunctioning freezer units and associated equipment. R.D. Lawrence Construction Company, Ltd. Of Springfield was the lowest of three bidders with a quote of $285,255. The facility is administered by the Illinois Department of Corrections. The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development board.

“Many Canton residents work at the correctional facility,” State Sen. Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) said. “We need to make sure it’s in the best possible shape so that they can do their jobs safely and well.”

This project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
