UNIVERSITY PARK– Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $771,000 for a construction project at Governors State University in University Park. The project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“This project addresses needed improvements at a key Governors State University building while creating a number of construction jobs, which will help the local economy as well,” Governor Quinn said.
Engbretson Hall at Governors State University will be renovated for $771,795. The work will include replacing interior finishes and light fixtures, improving acoustics, upgrading the information technology and audio visual systems, and upgrading accessibility for persons with disabilities. The general remodeling work contract was awarded to Chicago Heights Construction Company, the lower of two bidders at $428,000. The electrical work will be done by Linear Electric, Inc. of Orland Park, the lower of two bidders at $343,795. The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.
“Governor’s State University is the educational jewel of the Southland, and this construction will ensure that it remains a vibrant learning center,” State Sen. Toi Hutchinson (D-Chicago Heights) said. “This construction will improve the university, both educationally and aesthetically, as well as providing a boost to the local construction industry, which has been stagnant over the last few years.”
“This is a critical project for Governors State University and for our local communities,” State Rep. Anthony DeLuca (D-Chicago Heights) said. “Projects that put local residents to work provide a needed boost to the economy by bringing more business to our stores and providing employment for families who need financial stability.”
The project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
