NAPERVILLE – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $2.5 million for construction projects in DuPage County. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“DuPage County has a wide variety of infrastructure needs, and these construction projects will improve transportation safety and efficiency in the area,” Governor Quinn said. “They will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well.”

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Traffic signals will be modernized on Illinois Route 56 (Butterfield Road) at the I-355 north and southbound ramps at Downers Grove for $614,511 by H & H Electric Co. of Franklin Park, the lowest of five bidders.

Work on several streets in Downers Grove will be completed for $211,486 by Lorusso Cement Contractors, Inc. of West Chicago, the lowest of six bidders. The work will include sidewalk and curb and gutter replacement, paving and patching.

LED traffic control lights will be installed at various DuPage County locations for $1,223,275 by H & H Electric Co. of Franklin Park, the lowest of five bidders.

A multi-use trail will be constructed with drainage structures, sidewalks, pedestrian railings and block walls on the Greenway Trail from the Great Western Trail to North Avenue in unincorporated Lombard. A. Lamp Concrete Contractors, Inc. of Schaumburg was the lowest of nine bidders at $466,310.

“The improvements to this multiuse trail will create better opportunities for recreation and exercise in the area. The improved and modernized LED lights make traffic signals safer and more reliable,” State Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) said. “These projects provide valuable construction jobs for area workers.”

The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
