SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of $990,000 to improve security and provide more on-base parking at Springfield’s Camp Lincoln. These federally funded projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“These construction projects will improve security at this vital National Guard facility by replacing parts of the perimeter fence and making other improvements,” Governor Quinn said. “Additionally, it will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well.”
Camp Lincoln houses the headquarters of the Illinois National Guard, the 129th Regional Training Institute, the headquarters of the 65th Troop Command Brigade, the 3737th Support Maintenance Company of the 108th Sustainment Brigade, the 233rd Military Police Company of the 404th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, and other smaller units. More than 600 full-time Illinois National Guard employees work on Camp Lincoln with many more drilling on the facility one weekend a month.
“Ensuring that our Soldiers and Airmen can train in a safe and secure environment as they prepare for both our state and our national missions is of vital importance,” said Brig. Gen. Daniel M. Krumrei, the Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard.
R.L. Vollintine Construction, Inc. of Springfield will replace the perimeter fence at Camp Lincoln on their bid of $618,200.
J & B Builders, Inc. of St. Charles will construct a 6,300-square-yard parking lot with lighting and fencing for $372,445. The parking lot will accommodate military vehicles plus private vehicles owned by those attending the Regional Training Institute, weekend training, and other official activities on base.
Both projects will be administered by the Illinois Capital Development Board and use funds set aside for the purpose by the U.S. government.
