Governor Quinn Announces $2.9 Million for Construction Projects in McHenry County

Press Release - Thursday, September 05, 2013

MARENGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $2.9 million for road construction projects in McHenry County. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“These construction projects will improve a key intersection in Marengo and make bikeway improvements in Crystal Lake,” Governor Quinn said. “They will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well.”

Prospect Street from U.S. Route 20 to Illinois Route 176 will be reconstructed and widened, and intersection improvements will be made at Routes 20 and 176. Berger Excavating Contractors, Inc. of Wauconda was the lowest of seven bidders at $2,886,207. The Illinois Department of Transportation will manage the project.

Bikeway corridor improvements will be made along various local roads in Crystal Lake, including new pavement markings and signs, for $156,180 by Countryman, Inc. of Loves Park, the lowest of three bidders.

“Improving and sustaining our infrastructure is important to our community and our state,” State Sen. Pamela J. Althoff (R-McHenry) said. “Plus, this particular project specifically brings business and commerce to the area. That is always something that is welcomed, especially in these times.”

“These infrastructure projects are important investments in the safety, beauty and development of our communities,” State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Marengo) said. “By working toward safer roads near two busy schools and more enjoyable recreation spaces for families, these improvements will make our communities more attractive places to live and do business.”

These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
