Governor Quinn Announces $4 Million for Quad City International Airport Improvements

MOLINE – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a $4 million capital investment for construction projects at the Quad City International Airport in Moline as part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward. The contracts are soon to be awarded and followed a competitive bidding process, and address critical infrastructure needs while creating construction jobs.

“Investments in airports like this one in Moline make them more efficient and safer while creating construction jobs,” Governor Quinn said. “This Illinois Jobs Now! project will continue to ensure that Illinois has a strong, 21st century infrastructure.”

The Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics will manage the projects, which include federal and state funding. They include:

  • Installation of runway guard lights, $2,257,161 by J.F. Edwards Construction Company of Geneseo.
  • Site work at the snow removal equipment building expansion, $971,382 by McCarthy Improvement Company of Davenport, Iowa, the lowest of four bidders.
  • Construction of south service road, $479,173 by McCarthy Improvement Company, the lowest of three bidders.
  • Phase 1 of the south ramp expansion, $294,153 by McCarthy Improvement Company, the lowest of four bidders.

“These funds will help create good jobs for those living throughout the area,” State Sen. Mike Jacobs (D-Moline) said. “In addition to jobs, these improvements to our local infrastructure will help bring economic development to the region.”

"Maintaining and growing our status as a regional transportation hub is vital to our economy,” State Rep. Mike Smiddy (D-Hillsdale) said. “Infrastructure improvements like this help bring jobs and growth to western Illinois."

Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! is supporting more than 439,000 jobs over six years. It is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
