Governor Quinn Announces $368,000 for Monmouth Airport Improvements
MONMOUTH – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a $368,000 capital investment for a construction project at the Monmouth Municipal Airport as part of his Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. The project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward. The contract is soon to be awarded and followed a competitive bidding process and addresses a critical infrastructure need while creating construction jobs.
“Investments in airports like this one in Monmouth make them more efficient and safer while creating construction jobs,” Governor Quinn said. “This Illinois Jobs Now! project will continue to ensure that Illinois has a strong, 21st century infrastructure.”
The airport’s runway, west taxiway and aprons will be rehabilitated for $368,221 by Gunther Construction, a division of United Contractors Midwest Inc. of Galesburg, the lowest of three bidders. The Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics will manage the project, which includes federal and state funding.
“As the oldest continuously operated airport in the state, the Monmouth Municipal Airport is an important transportation link for businesses and individuals in the Western Illinois region,” State Sen. John M. Sullivan (D-Rushville) said. “This much-needed infrastructure improvement project will create construction jobs and keep the airport and community growing for years to come.”
Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! is supporting more than 439,000 jobs over six years. It is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
