Governor Quinn Announces $14.6 Million for Construction Projects in Lake and McHenry Counties
GRAYSLAKE – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a total of more than $14.6 million in capital investments for several construction projects in Lake and McHenry Counties. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“These projects will make traffic flow more safely and improve one of our more popular state parks,” Governor Quinn said. “The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well.”
The Illinois Department of Transportation will manage the projects except where noted.
About 7.4 miles of U.S. Route 45 through Gurnee, Third Lake, Lindenhurst, Old Mill Creek and Grayslake will be resurfaced for $2,629,096. Curran Contracting Company of Crystal Lake was the lowest of three bidders for the work.
Another project involves 4.77 miles of resurfacing on Illinois Route 131 from Illinois Route 173 (Rosecrans Road) to Sunset Avenue in Wadsworth. Curran Contracting Company of Crystal Lake submitted a bid of $1,989,275, the lowest of three submitted.
Another project involves 3.9 miles of resurfacing on U.S. Route 45, also known as Half Day Road, from Illinois Route 83 to Old Illinois Route 22. The work will take place in Mundelein, Vernon Hills, Indian Creek, and Lincolnshire. Peter Baker & Son Co. of Lake Bluff was the low bidder at $1,870,580.
Illinois Route 173, also known as Rosecrans Road will be resurfaced for almost three miles in Antioch from North Orchard Street to Deep Lake Road for $1,784,522. J.A. Johnson Paving Company of Arlington Heights was the lowest of four bidders for the work.
Crystal Lake will see McHenry Avenue from Rakow Road to U.S. Route 14 resurfaced, and the project will also include storm sewer replacement and other work. The lowest of three bidders was Curran Contracting Company of Crystal Lake with their bid of $1,468,728.
Crystal Lake Road in the City of McHenry will be resurfaced from Bull Valley Road to Illinois Route 120. The work will also include curb and gutter and sidewalk replacement, and traffic signal improvements. Curran Contracting Company of Crystal Lake was the lowest of three bidders at $1,278,210.
About 2.5 miles of Illinois Route 120 in Round Lake, Hainesville and Grayslake will be resurfaced for $1,098,946. The lowest of three bidders was J.A. Johnson Paving Company of Arlington Heights.
Another project involves milling and resurfacing on U.S. Route 45 from the Wisconsin state line to Illinois Route 173, otherwise known as Rosecrans Road, in Antioch. Curran Contracting Company of Crystal Lake was the lowest of three bidders at $608,419.
A project in Lake in the Hills involves construction of a Park & Ride commuter lot at Virginia Road and Illinois Route 31. Berger Excavating Contractors, Inc. of Wauconda was the lowest of six bidders with their quote of $579,717.
Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park will receive drainage and culvert improvements, pavement removal, new trails and other work. Copenhaver Construction, Inc. of Gilberts, Illinois was the lowest of three bidders with their quote of $835,809.
McHenry County College in Crystal Lake will receive exterior lighting upgrades. The lowest of four bidders was Associated Electrical Contractors, Inc. of Woodstock with their bid of $343,960. The Illinois Capital Development Board will manage the project.
Commercial Street in Richmond between Illinois Route 173 and U.S. Route 12 will be repaved and other related work performed for $334,754. Payne & Dolan, Inc. of Waukesha, Wisconsin was the lowest of three bidders submitting proposals.
The contracts were recently awarded following a competitive bidding process and address critical infrastructure needs while creating construction jobs.
These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which is supporting more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
