Statement from Governor Pat Quinn on General Assembly Passage of Online Voter Registration
SPRINGFIELD - Governor Pat Quinn today released the following statement on the House's passage of House Bill 2418, which allows citizens to register online to vote, one of the governor's 2013 State of the State proposals:
"I want to thank Senate sponsor Don Harmon and House sponsor Barbara Flynn Currie for their work to bring online voter registration to Illinois.
"House Bill 2418 will move our election process into the 21st century by making voter registration easier and more readily available for everyday people. This cost-effective measure will save taxpayer dollars and welcome new voters of all ages to our state's democratic process.
"In today's Internet age, allowing residents to register online will help more voters raise their voices at the ballot box and strengthen our democracy.
"I thank all the members of the Illinois General Assembly who supported this bill and I look forward to signing it into law."
