Conservation World

Located in the northwest corner of the fairgrounds

Open from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Free family fun, entertainment, and great ideas for spending time outdoors are featured inside over 30 acres of green grass, trees, rolling hills and ponds at Conservation World. Free shows include the famed Paul Bunyan Lumberjacks, along with free Voyageur canoe rides, fishing clinics, shooting sports instruction for youth, interactive displays on outdoors fun, and much more. Conservation World is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.​


Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show
Mon - Thurs; 12 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m.
Fri - Sun: 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m.
Bring the family to watch the fun as the lumberjacks race to see who can chop, saw & cut the fastest!

Blacksmith John Massey
Daily 11a.m., 2, 5 p.m.
The art of Blacksmithing is one of the few demonstrations that hold a crowd of people's attention for an extended period of time. The combination of fire , the motion, and the noise makes an excellent crowd pleaser. Educational elements are also inluded in the demonstrations to keep the adults interested.

Fishing Pond – Fishing Clinic’s
Daily 10:30 a.m., 12, 1:30, 3, 4 & 5:30 p.m.
Learn about different species of fish and try your hand at catching some (kids only).

Fly Fishing Demonstrations 
Aug.11-13, & Aug. 18-20 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., & 4:30 p.m.  
Participants will gain hands-on experience fly casting, and learn the essential mechanics of fly casting for a variety of species and the appropriate tackle to use.

Forestry Tent
Daily 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Visit with a Forester and learn about how you can be a better conservationist. Smokey Bear will be stopping by to say hello and kids get to try their luck at various games. 

Green Acres Sportsman Club -Dog Demonstrations
 Aug. 13 & 14; 1p.m. & 4 p.m.
Watch Trainer Dan Ihrke and some of the most fantastic hunting dogs in action! The Young Guns division of the Illinois Pheasants Forever Pioneer Chapter will be on hand to help Dan and display their hunting simulator while serving their mission to help get youth outdoors 

IDNR Outdoor Amphitheater

Illinois Green Industry Association Information Center
Daily. 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Illinois Certified Nursery Professionals (ICNP) on site daily to answer questions about gardening and landscaping. 

Wildlife Tent Daily
10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Visit with Wildlife Biologist on an array of topics; flora and fauna identification, wildlife management, wildlife diseases, and habitat management.
