Interpreting in the K-12 Setting

As IDHHC is the licensing body for sign language interpreters working in the community, the Illinois State Board for Education (ISBE) regulates educational sign language interpreters providing services to children in a K-12 setting.  For questions in regard to educational interpreting in a K-12 setting, please contact Todd Williams, ISBE Principal Consultant, at todwilli@isbe.net, or call 217.782.5589.

The Illinois Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) is an accepted, state issued certification to apply for an Illinois Sign Language Interpreter License and/or Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approval for educational interpreters. IDHHC administers the BEI testing at its office in Springfield, Illinois.
