Microfilming Lab

Newspapers are fragile, and preserving them on microfilm helps to guarantee the availability of their contents to researchers.  On an ongoing basis, technicians at the Library prepare and microfilm more than 300 Illinois newspapers published in small- to medium-sized cities.   They also microfilm back issues of newspapers to fill in gaps in the Library’s collection.

To check the availability of newspaper microfilm, see our Newspapers on Microfilm page.

Purchase Microfilm

Newspaper microfilm produced by the Library is available for purchase at $45 per roll plus shipping and handling.
