    CHICAGO - Governor Bruce Rauner, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Chicago Defender, celebrated Black History Month at an event honoring the contributions of African Americans to Illinois history.

    Governor Bruce Rauner Honors Carnegie Hero From Buffalo Grove

    SPRINGFIELD, IL – Governor Bruce Rauner honored Buffalo Grove resident Duncan O.C. Harris today for earning a Carnegie Medal for his heroism. In July 2015, Harris was vacationing in North Carolina when he heard a boy’s cry for help coming from the ocean. Together with another bystander, Harris swam 450 feet into the Atlantic Ocean and successfully saved the 13-year-old’s life.

    Governor Addresses State Board of Education to Emphasize Importance of Strong Accountability Standards

    CHICAGO – Governor Bruce Rauner addressed the Illinois State Board of Education meeting to advocate for more rigorous standards to prioritize equity and closing achievement gaps.

    As part of the Every Student Succeeds Act each state is required to submit a plan to the U.S. Department of Education on how they are prioritizing equity and supporting teachers.
