FAQ and Answers

Q: Can I customize the colors used in the template?
A:: In the entity templates, YES. Info on the color styles that may be changed can be found at http://webmaster.ito.state.il.us/WEBRT/helpsystem/cssdesc.htm In the business template colors may not be changed.

Q: Can Template column widths be changed?
A: No. The default width must be maintained.

Q: Can a graphic be used in the background of any portion of the template??
A: No. Not without specific clearance from ITO.

Q: Can font size be changed
A: No. A font size standard must be maintained to help ensure readability across all sites in the templates.

Q: Can the elements of the left column such as entity links, state links and the search be reordered
A: No.

Q: Can additional functionality be added to the left column search.
A: Yes. Contact the ITO for proper instruction. Examples of complex searches include ICC and DCFS.

Q: Can the "State Links" and "State Features" be removed?
A: No. They must be used as directed elsewhere in this site.

Q: Can the footer be customized?
A: Entity privacy, Kids privacy, Web accessibility and contacts info must be included. A few additional links may be included but should not effect the height of the footer.

Q: Are there specific fonts we are required to use?
A:: The fonts are already defined in the CSS as (font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif). In the Title graphic we prefer that agencies use Times New Roman.

Q: What should be included in the montage graphic in the upper left hand corner of the template?
A:: The images in the Montage should reflect the services provided by your entity and may include people, animals, plants, flowers, buildings, etc. Also, your entity logo should be included in the right side of the montage so that when compiled the logo will be displayed directly to the left of the entity Title.

Q: How do server side includes work?
A:: Server side includes are a cool way for a web server to build a complete web page from a number of parts(includes). Each include is written in HTML, but is not a complete page on its own. You need to have a central page that is referenced as the URL by the web browser and then one or more includes that are called by the central page. A small amount of code placed in the central page will retrieve the include when the browser asks to open the page.

Q: What is the benefit of using server side includes?
A:: Includes can be modified separately and the modifications will show up instantly on all pages using that include when they are accessed.
