10/10/11 - Governor Quinn Breaks Ground on Rail Project to Reduce Delays, Expand Passenger Service
Englewood Flyover to Create Nearly 1,500 Jobs, Ease Congestion, Improve Safety
CHICAGO – October 10, 2011. Governor Pat Quinn, joined by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush and other federal, state and local officials, broke ground today on the Englewood Flyover, a project that eliminates one of the region’s worst rail bottlenecks and will enable Illinois to serve as the hub for an expanded Midwestern network of passenger rail. The $133 million project, made possible by Governor Quinn’s Illinois Jobs Now! capital program and the federal recovery act, will reduce commuter and Amtrak delays, enhance freight rail operations, improve safety and create nearly 1,500 jobs.

CHICAGO – September 15, 2011. Governor Pat Quinn today continued his commitment to improving education in Illinois by joining students, parents, advocates and community leaders to open the United Neighborhood Organization’s (UNO) newest charter school on Chicago’s West Side. The state provided a $27 million Illinois Jobs Now! capital investment to build UNO’s Soccer Academy Elementary School, which employed nearly 400 workers during construction and is now creating 42 full- and part-time permanent jobs.

Action Stops State’s Electric Utilities from Imposing Billions in Rate Hikes Following Summer of Major Service Disruptions
CHICAGO – September 12, 2011. Governor Pat Quinn today was joined by Attorney General Lisa
Madigan and advocates from across the state to fulfill his pledge to protect Illinois consumers from massive
electric rate hikes. The Governor today vetoed Senate Bill 1652, which would have allowed Illinois’ utility
companies to impose billions of dollars in automatic rate hikes every year for the next decade, while eroding
more than a century of consumer protections.
