Leading Illinois to the Forefront of Government Technology
The Illinois Technology Office (ITO) was created by the Governor
through an executive order in February 1999. The office was charged
with providing direction and recommendations for coordinated and
integrated management and development of technological innovation
in state government.
The ITO has shown the vision and collaborative ability to lead
Illinois to the forefront of government technology. From providing
guidance to agencies on technology issues, to representing the state
in important areas such as digital divide and homeland security,
the ITO plays a crucial role in Illinois government.
Never before has the State of Illinois seen such strides in technology.
Technology is no longer a luxury in state government; technology
is now a foundational element in the accomplishment of all government
operations. Communications, tracking diseases, mapping crime, distributing
benefits, filing taxes, licensing professionals, and promoting tourism
are just a sample of the ways Illinois is using technology for a
more effective and efficient government.
