Welcome to the Governor's Office of Women's Affairs in Illinois. |
|
The Governor’s Office of Women’s Affairs was established by Executive Order of
Gov. Rod Blagojevich, effective March 31, 2004. This newly created office is the focal point in the Governor’s office for public policy issues that affect women throughout the state of Illinois.
The Executive Order builds upon the foundation created by the former Governor’s Commission on the Status of Women by transforming the Commission into a permanent office with its entire focus on the promotion of women’s issues.
The purpose of the Governor’s Office of Women’s Affairs include the following:
- To provide an inter-governmental and public/private “clearinghouse” of initiatives, programs and legislation to promote the health, education, family care and economic independence on behalf of women.
- To maintain a resource pool of agency heads, legislators and private sector professionals (including former Commissioners), serving as volunteers who can be accessed, based on their expertise, for long and short-term projects.
- To direct and maintain ongoing collaboration between state government and private sector professionals acting as advocates for policies, programs and initiatives to benefit women’s health, education, families and economic security.
The Office of Women’s Affairs is housed within the Office of the Governor with a Director and staff who report directly to the Governor’s office.
