  2003 Budget Address

In the first budget address of his administration, Governor Rod Blagojevich presented to the General Assembly, and the people of Illinois, a plan of rescue from the largest deficit in the state's history. Focusing on the essential need of a unified, bipartisan approach to solving the fiscal crisis, the Governor called on all members of the House and Senate to commit to balancing the budget. Beyond his goal of a balanced budget, the Governor also sought bipartisan cooperation in continuing to move the state forward in the critical areas that impact, and benefit, the citizens of Illinois.

07/09/08 - Governor Blagojevich acts to balance Fiscal Year 2009 budget deficit left by House
House failure to pass revenue to support $2 billion in spending, forces Governor to make spending reductions
SPRINGFIELD — Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today balanced the Fiscal Year 2009 budget after House Democrats failed to pass new funding to support a spending plan that was over $2 billion out of balance. The Governor was forced to veto $1.4 billion in initiatives after the House of Representatives clearly showed Wednesday that they did not intend to take any action on the measure.

06/24/08 - Governor Calls on House to Approve Funding Sources Passed by Senate, Avoid Budget Reductions
If House fails to pass new revenue, $1.5 billion must be reduced
CHICAGO – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today called upon the House of Representatives to pass revenues already approved by the Illinois Senate, warning that funding will be unavailable for $1.5 billion in spending if the Senate’s revenue package is not passed. Reductions as well as additional reserves would be required to close a $2 billion dollar shortfall in the Fiscal Year 2009 budget passed by the General Assembly in May.
