These are examples of the large variety of flowers that are native to Illinois. We will plant wildflowers such as these at major highway interchanges and state gateways. Wildflowers are native to Illinois and more equipped to face the natural challenges of the state's harsh climate. They will not only improve the look of state roadways, but also provide a natural habitat for small animals and insects and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
The State Beautification Program is designed to improve our quality of life by enhancing the aesthetics of our roadways while reducing maintenance costs and making the public more aware of our diverse natural history.
