The Illinois Coal Technology Development Assistance Act mandates programs to increase public awareness and education concerning Illinois coal. According to Illinois Compiled Statute 30ILCS 730/2 public awareness and education shall be directed toward school age residents of the State, the citizens of the State and other interested parties. To this end, DCEO offers an Annual Coal Education Conference and an Annual Essay & Art Contest.  DCEO also answers numerous requests for coal-related information throughout the year to other interested parties.

We encourage you to download the posters, videos and other resources for use in your classroom. The Office of Coal Development has begun the process of updating and enhancing the coal curriculum in correlation with the Illinois Learning Standards, Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards.
