Total Retiree Advantage Illinois (TRAIL) Program

The TRAIL Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period for the 2016 plan year will be October 15 - November 16, 2015.  Informational seminars will be held statewide to give eligible retirees and survivors an opportunity to learn about the Total Retiree Advantage Illinois (TRAIL) Program.  Topics will include eligibility criteria and an explanation of the benefits provided through the Program.

The seminars will begin October 13th and will go through October 30th. A list of the 2015 seminars dates, times and locations can be found here. Representatives from the Department of Central Management Services (CMS), the Medicare Advantage plans being offered in the area, and Silver Sneakers will be present to answer your questions. Here is a list indicating when each of the Medicare Advantage plans will be attending the TRAIL seminars.

In case you aren't able to attend one of the seminars around the state, you can view a slide presentation regarding the TRAIL Medicare Advantage Program. A video of the presentation can be viewed here:

Retirees and survivors who became eligible for the TRAIL Medicare Advantage Program over the past year (i.e., became eligible for Medicare between October 2, 2014 and October 1, 2015) should have received a letter (printed on yellow paper) in mid-September notifying them of their eligibility and the requirement to enroll or opt out of the coverage during the TRAIL Open Enrollment Period.  All currently enrolled TRAIL members, as well as those newly eligible for the program, will be mailed a TRAIL Open Enrollment kit the first week of October.
