The Department on Aging is seeking community partner agencies or groups or collaborations of local partners to participate in pilot projects to test ways to improve deflection from nursing home placement. This effort is part of a larger project to reduce initial nursing home placements funded through the Balancing Incentive Program (BIP). Pilots will test ways of modifying the state’s existing process for screening and accepting placements into facilities to help shift state long-term care service and supports spending to at least 50% in the home and community, as required under the BIP. In the 2009 baseline, only 27% of Illinois spending was in the home and community. Mississippi was the only state with a lower percentage.
