Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs brings awareness to homeless Vets at Prince Home
Open house to share information, resources for homeless veterans
MANTENO – The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) held an open house today at the Prince Home at Manteno to bring awareness to the resources the State of Illinois provides for homeless and disabled veterans. IDVA Director Dan Grant was joined by State Rep. Lisa Dugan (D-Kankakee) and State Sen. Toi Hutchinson (D-Chicago Heights) at the facility, which was the first in Illinois to provide permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans.

Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Dedicates Lile Lake at Manteno Veterans’ Home
MANTENO – Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) Director Dan Grant today joined Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson and other elected and local officials to dedicate and formally open Lile Lake, a 1.75-acre fishing pond for residents of the Illinois Veterans’ Home at Manteno and their families.

Governor Quinn Announces Site for New Veterans’ Home in Chicago
Construction Date Set for 200-Bed, LEED Silver Certified Facility
CHICAGO – November 10, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn today announced the site of the Illinois Veterans’ Home at Chicago, a 200-bed facility that will begin construction in 2010. The $65 million project is part of the Illinois Jobs Now! capital plan, signed into law by Governor Quinn earlier this year.

Governor Quinn Salutes Fallen Illinois Servicemember
Midlothian Resident Sgt. Christopher Abeyta Honored
MIDLOTHIAN – November 3, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn today attended a memorial in honor of Sgt. Christopher Abeyta at Bremen High School in Midlothian. Sgt. Abeyta and two other servicemembers were killed in action on March 15 when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device in Kot, Afghanistan.

Governor Quinn to Advocate for National Military Family Relief Fund Measure
Fund Would Provide Greater Aid to Military Families Nationwide
WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 4, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn will endorse a bill that would provide aid to military families in all branches of the armed services at a National Press Club Newsmakers press conference at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. The press conference will be in the Zenger Room on the 13th floor of National Press Building, 529 14th Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20045.
